Well... its been a wee while since I filled one of these in. Not even sure I can remember the format, anyway here goes.   50 Miles or so on the Mitre Social ride should give me a good idea of where my fitness level is at.  As its been a long time here's a little more detail into the preparation, kit and recovery of the ride.

Preparation Notes
Ate well last night and had a good sleep, though not as many hours as I'd liked.  Have been more aware of rest and diet all week in preparation for the ride today.  Have felt dog tired all week, not through any excersion, I think its just from general draining apathy at work. Had a warm drink before bed.  Woke up feeling fresh, ate cereal and had a hot drink.

08:30am - Brighton Mitre Club Run - 51 Miles / 3 Hrs 30 Mins
Rode out to Aldbourne with the club in very windy conditions.  Felt fresh and good, first time out properly for a long time.  Tried to do everything by the book today:  with food and water intake, concentration on position and breathing, not pushing too hard and trying and getting a good rythym.

Kit Notes
Weather was mild but very windy so went with:
Feet & Hands - training SIDI's with overshoe socks, defeet cycling socks and waterproof socks over.  Kept the wind out and feet were snug for the whole ride. Slight numbness at the end but nothing to worry about.  Gloves were defeets, little cold towards the end but again nothing to complain about.

Legs - Mitre Winter bib tights performed great, no problems with the chamois and no rubbing.
Top - rash vest base, long sleeve 6 day jersey and Mitre windproof top.  Was a little warm at times but otherwise perfect for the weather

Bike and Position
New wheels were awesome and have a super fast rolling speed.  The bike in general had no mechnical niggles at all.  Position wise no problems with back or legs after 3.5 hours in the saddle.

Ride and Recovery
Was tough on the Dyke in the wind and sitting behind some new riders we kept yo-yoing a little.  Would have been difficult regardless of fitness really.  Felt good coming down the Dyke, wheels and brakes performing superbly after servicing last weekend.  After the split at Aldbourne rode on the front of the social ride with Stuart for about 25 miles.  Felt good as far as about Dial Post, then sat back for the rest of the ride.  By this time slight inclines were causing a flush of lactic acid so eased up a bit and at Ashington let the group ride on and I rode my own pace until meeting them a few minutes later at the next junction.  Repeated this to the outskirts of Steyning where I let them ride off and I made my own way home.  Followed the Coombs road to Shoreham Airport and back along the sea front.  Measured my output on the last 15 miles so as not to over cook it, hydrated and ate well and avoided any cramp or hunger knock.  Felt fresh and really enjoyed the ride, especially the Coombs road at my own pace loving the fact of being in warm dry kit whilst still feeling the elements.

Once home had recovery drink and a meal within 30 minutes.  Massaged the lactic acid from my legs which actually seemed to work as I had no aches or tightness in my leg muscles at all for the rest of the weekend.

Really interesting comparing this to my first Club run of 2009 - http://pedalog.blogspot.com/2009/02/8th-february-2009.html
